  • "EMAIL IT" IS BACK IN ACTION!

The little link is everywhere... look at the bottom of any post and you'll see it, hangin' out all the way over on the right: email it.

A lot of you may have never noticed the little guy. If you did notice it (and actually use it), you may have never realized it didn't really work well . Here's what it was supposed to do:

    • Send a link back to the post you just read, the post that you want your email recipient to check out

    • Send along any personal message you may have written on the little "email it" postcard page.

It was sending along those personal messages like a champ. But most of the links it sent were totally busted, so your email recipient didn't really know what post at Xanga you wanted him or her to read.

But now, it's fixed and even better than before:

    • The links back to the posts actually work now, but they're not as important anymore because...

    • Now you can send the Full HTML of the post in your email. You'll see two sending options on the "email it" postcard page:

      • "Full HTML Entry" - this option sends the entire post, including any images and fancy HTML formatting. These emails will also include links back to the post, so the email recipient can pop back to Xanga to leave eProps and comments.

      • "Text Link Only" - this option sends the old version of the "email it" email, with just a link back to the post. But now the link actually works.
This re-launch of the "email it" feature is also another step forward in the complete overhaul of Xanga's code base that you've heard us yapping about for the last six months or so. The re-launched feature may seem similar to the old one, but it's actually been completely re-written using the newer, swanker code. It's a small step, but a necessary one - when we get 100% of the old Xanga up to speed in the new code base, we'll really be able to take advantage of the speed and reliability improvements it promises. Each little step helps a little, but when we get to 100%, that's when the fun will really begin !
