  • A ONE-TWO PUNCH

...and Xanga was down for the count. Last night at about 11:30PM (EST) our primary bandwidth provider started getting traffic surges that left Xanga with a shaky connection (punch one). Xanga was still standing at that point, but its legs were clearly wobbly. Then at about 4:30AM this morning, the router at our colocation facility (it's basically the gate between Xanga's servers and the rest of the world) locked down and refused to let Xangans through (punch two - Xanga hits the mat).

We're finally back up and running now. So I wanted to get this post in place to let you all know what happened and to say I'm sorry...

What's particularly frustrating about getting knocked out last night is that we trained for this match. We've got more servers than we need right now to keep Xanga running. We've got backup sources of bandwidth in case our primary source goes on the fritz. We even have backup routers at our colocation facility to deal with the "unlikely" event that the primary router goes kaput.

But with the bandwidth and the router (and then the first replacement router) all failing one after the other, we just didn't stand a chance. So as we recover from this latest bout ("we" = everyone on the xanga team including john who was lucky enough to be out of the country during this nightmare , but who definitely lost as much sleep over it as the rest of us), we want to say again that we're sorry for letting you down. We’ve learned some new tricks for fending off these types of devastating combinations. And we’re just going to keep training, as hard as ever, to prepare for the next time we’re forced back into the ring.
