  • XANGA PHOTOS

UPDATE - 4/14/05:  Looks like we've got some lingering issues with the new system - we're trying to pin down these remaining bugs so we can squash em...  More...

Over the last few months, Janet and Dan have completely overhauled our photo system. Dan installed new servers that can hold a lot more photos. And Janet just launched a whole new set of code for storing and displaying pics - it's much faster and more efficient.

What does this mean for you?

In the near term, you probably won't notice too many changes (most of the work we've been doing has been "behind the scenes"). But two things you may notice:

    • Picture Quality - with the new code, we've enhanced the display quality of photos by over 40%. This higher quality can really make a difference for pics of people's faces, particularly around the eyes.

    • Picture Size - just like before, when you upload a big photo, we create a trimmed down version for (quick) display on your weblog and link it to a large version where you can see more details. But now with this new code, we've made that large version even bigger and clearer.

In the longer term - we're continuing to dedicate a ton of our time to Xanga's photo features... this overhaul to our systems was just the first (big) step, but we've got lots of additional photo stuff on the way!

So thanks for your patience as we continue to work on our photo systems. And please let us know how the new photo system is working for you - thanks!
