  • XANGA - NOW WITH REAL SEARCH!

Thanks to everyone who helped beta test Xanga's new search features. It seemed to be working ok on the beta site, so Monsur just uploaded it to the live site!

During the beta testing, we got a few questions about the three search options:

    » Xanga Search

I like it, very fast. Need to be able to search more of xanga tho

Totally - we are working on making Xanga Search results more current! But we already have about half the database in there, and we didn't want to make you all have to wait any longer.

'Xanga search is a premium feature...'
    Thumbs down.

We're phasing in Xanga Search. First, we're going to make sure that our search engine can take the load from premium members.  If it can, we're going to start looking into how we can extend Xanga Search to all classic members, too!

    » Web Search

if i want to search the web im just going to use google or the yahoo search engine like i always do... no need to go to xanga just for that.

Absolutely - we couldn't imagine offering better web search than the huge search engines that you already use... which is why we just brought one of those big search engines to Xanga for you!  Xanga's new Web Search feature is powered by one of the companies that you mentioned, mhsballerina07 - it's the same search. I'll leave the details to a future post (gotta coordinate an announcement with that company), but it's pretty easy to tell who it is

    » Users Search

it sux cuz free users cant search for their friends. it used to be enabled so that anyone could do it.

Hmm... Sorry for any confusion minqqq - User Search is available to all Xanga users - both Premium and Classic users. You just need to sign in do a User Search, but you don't need to be a Premium member.

Looks good... much better than what we had before! ...In the future, it would be very usefull for an adv. search that would search: first/last name, 'city/state', schools/universities, etc. Let me know if you have plans to do this!

Yes, TuckerViolinist, we have plans to do all of it

Where Can You Try a Search?

There are two places you can try the new search features:

    1. the search bar on Xanga's Frontpage
    2. the search bar on Your Own Xanga Sites

(if you don't see the search bar on your own site, you may have hidden it - to get it back, just go into your Look & Feel Settings page and select "Yes" next to "Show Search Bar?", then scroll down and click the "Save Changes" button)
