Obviously it's going to depend on where the person is coming from.  Me, I'm a Christian, and while I don't find it offensive personally, just a little silly, I know a lot of Christians who would probably be offended.  And I know a lot of non-Christians who would find it hilarious.

The thing is, when you wear it in public, you're basically making a statement.  You have to decide if that statement is representative of who you are.

    I think it is funny.
I like that saying “Since light travels faster than sound, people appear bright until you hear them speak.”

  • marc

    @seedsower - haha that's pretty funny

  • chrischoi

definitely funny - saw the bumper sticker before of that too.  but like snooch - can imagine some people being offended.  but then again, i've seen some really terrible Christian themed shirts - like Jesus in the uncle sam "i want you" shirts, and the ones that take various candy logos and put words like "Salvation" and "Jesus Christ" on it instead.  those i roll my eyes.  but, i think beer commercial makers should make all captions for tshirts tho.

    case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iBY7Yirq60&e

@chrischoi - oh man, i clicked that youtube link and then immediately thought: "nooooo - i've been rick rolled!" (thanks for showing restraint)

I think it is pretty funny.  I don't find it offensive.

Definately a funny t-shirt.  And from your description, it sounds like a very comfy shirt, no need to let a good shirt go to waste.  If I were you, I'd wear it.  You have your freedom of speech, and if someone gets offended then they have problems.  I've seen much worse.  Once, I saw a bumper sticker that said "KKK, the ORIGINAL 'Boyz in da Hood'".

  • AdiOpERsOcoM

I actually think it's hilarious. And like Chris, I've seen it on a bumper sticker before too. But right, it'd probably offend the religious masses... while I wouldn't wear that shirt around churches or perhaps hospitals, I'd wear it for kicks on random outings with friends.

I will admit that one of the funniest shirts I've ever seen had Jesus hiding behind a bush, and it said, "If I have to find Jesus, does that mean he's hiding?" Here're other ones, including unavailable shirts, that people may also find offensive: http://www.tshirthell.com/search.php?search=jesus

Just hope he doesn't come when you're having your special alone time.

It's kinda open for interpretation Marc.  Honestly, you tend to see a lot of lite humor like this among Evangelicals and professors at seminaries and Bible colleges.  They enjoy respectful and lite humor such as this, but usually only within small circles.  If made public, or the public image of Christ is on display, yes it can easily become offensive.  It would seem to be up the individual wearing the shirt to determine if it was offensive or not, in how they are presenting it.

The Bible itself does warn about this type of humor and the kind of disrespectul humor that it can lead to (in Proverbs, I believe).  It's not a warning that God, in his righteous indignation, will smite them, but more of a warning that it will lead you astray from the truth of who Christ is (my interpretation at least).

There's a joke among Baptist that when you are witnessing, make them twice as much Baptist as you are!  The humor here has the gospels in view where Jesus says that when the Pharisees go proselytizing, they make their disciples twice as much a child of hell as they are.  Not trying to use alarming language here or upset Baptist!  I'm a seminarian at a Baptist College!  This kind of humor is obviously of the more offensive nature.

I'd say, your convictions about wearing the shirt in public are honorable.  God does ask us to treat his name as holy.  Now, will looking busy somehow fool Christ?  Obviously not... so it is kinda funny.  Better to keep covenant with Christ for his return and share in his glory.

is there a picture of Ned Flanders on the shirt?  cuz that would be awesome.

  • beagle

@john - haha that would be awesome... nope, there's a picture of a long-haired gentleman on the shirt, which it seems would add to the potential offensiveness.

  • beagle

@Amandasbiggestfan - i have no official reply to this comment (off the record: I'm cracking up)

  • beagle

@Amandasbiggestfan - @john - haha, d'oh... this is marc by the way. "beagle" is just a random test account I was just using to do some QA, sorry.

  • untamed_beauty@dollarish

I'm very religious and it sounds funny to me. I always laugh at stuff like that.

  • jai_ko

My belief is, something funny is always offensive to someone.

But if you don't mind, and you're going to an atheist convention, it'd be funny. hahahahaha

  • leanode

i am a Christian and I don't think it's offensive at all... haha sounds like "your boss is coming,.. look busy"..its all cuz you have respect for that person that you want to look busy to loook good? well i am not a perfect Christian and of cos i wanna look good in front of Jesus.

  • eugy

Ooooh I love super soft, shirts like that, even better with the hilarious caption.
That definitely wouldn't bother me but yeah I agree, some ppl will hate it. I had one of those "Jesus is my homeboy" shirts and thought it was awesome. Then my mom saw it and was very offended. I think she thought homeboy was a derogatory term. kekek

  • mama_jess

I think I had that bumper sticker. What's really funny is that the Christians who would find that statement offensive are the ones trying really hard to "look" devout and not acting so. It's poking fun at those who "talk the talk" but don't "walk the walk", as it were...

I personally like the "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" stickers...funny in the same vein.

  • ZincWhiskers

Just seems kinda loco funny to me.  I am a Christ follower, believer of the true historical figure who lived on earth and said he would return.  Looking busy won't matter one way or the other when he comes back.  Incidentally (and in case you didn't know) the Bible teaches that true religion is to care for the widows and the orphans.  In that regard, I would like to be thought religious, but not religious like some pointlessly narrow-thinking church goer.  I do love those uber-soft cheap t-shirts you speak of!

  • Rakusho

It's offensive to those that find it offesnive :P, otherwise it's funny,

It's like a racist joke, it's funny until someone takes offense. xD

  • andre

The statement "Jesus is coming... Look busy!"is funny because it has to do with the reader, not Jesus. I think it's great.

One t-shirt I always found funny was "Fuck you, you fuckin' fuck!" I don't know why. it just does.
  • rika070

It's not offensive. It might be funny, but I think it's just pretty stupid.

I always choose careful what t-shirt I wear in public.  I prefer one without text on or a lot of pattern on.
